Biomechanical approach

Postural assessment

This course is for any practitioner who wishes to add postural assessment to their current practice. The main objective is to teach the student how to detect and recognize posture imbalances. Topics that will be covered include the development of human posture, from birth to adulthood, morphotypes and postural variations according to human occupations. Participants will learn the different postures of everyday life, how to evaluate these postures as well as how to interpret and document the results obtained in a therapeutic context. The purpose of this work is to help built a clinical opinion; it does not, in any way, constitute a diagnosis.

Prerequisites

Massage therapy diploma (400 nours minimum) or naturopath or 2nd year IESN student or chiropractor, physiotherapist, osteopath, kinesiologist, physical rehabilitation therapist, on presentation of proof of title.

Course objectives

  • To familiarize the participants with several elements related to the human bipedal posture.
  • To learn how to assess human posture according to parameters that are easy to objectify.
  • To differentiate posture from structure.
  • To be able to identify the external factors that influence posture.
  • To identify the internal factors that influence posture.
  • To submit different schools of thought regarding the so-called ideal posture.
  • To offer exercises that promote a return to postural balance.
